Northeast Columbia and Info

Situated northeast of downtown Columbia, this part of town is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Columbia. The soil is sandy and for the most part the terrain is flat with pine trees dominating the forests. Route 277, an expressway with limited access, connects Northeast Columbia with downtown. Northeast residents also have easy access to I-77 (Charlotte, NC & Charleston, SC), I-20 (Florence, Augusta, GA) and I-26 (Spartanburg/ Greenville). I-77 is often referred to as the Charlotte Corridor. US Route 1, or Two Notch Road, is the major road along which most of Northeast Columbia's commercial and retail enterprises are found. Residential development has grown rapidly and significantly in Columbia over the past 12 years, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Northeast area of town. There are scores of new housing developments in Northeast Columbia, particularly in the Clemson Road area. These include moderately priced starter home communities, patio home developments, and some of the most exclusive residential areas in Columbia. Many of these new subdivisions offer residents an array of recreational amenities. Surely a family can find a home and community to suit their hobbies, tastes and budget in Northeast Columbia. The Northeast area of Columbia is also appealing to newcomers because so many new people have settled here over the past decade. Families are quick to assimilate into the neighborhood. The Richland County Tennis Center, on Parklane Road, is open to the public and offers 12 courts for year-round play. Other Parks Include: Blythewood Park Killian Park Meadowlake Park Polo Road Park 1 Bowling Center 2 Public and 4 Private Golf Courses Meadowlake Park, located in Northeast Columbia is a 41.6-acre facility located at 600 Beckman Road. Amenities include a recreation building (gymnasium, club room, game room, arts & crafts room, kitchen, weight room, racquetball court); 1 lighted Dixie Youth baseball field, 1 lighted softball field, football/soccer field, a picnic facility with shelter and a track with lights.
